It gets in your blood. In the US and the UK, sports can get into your blood and start to boil bringing most men, and some women, almost to the addiction point. There is something about the competition side of sports. It appeals to men on an atavistic level. It may surprise you to know that one of the most competitive up and coming sports is Air Hockey! It?s a pure sport that is gathering momentum like a snowball rolling downhill. If we are lucky, we started Air Hockey playing at an early age because there are valuable lessons to be learned from it. What makes Air Hockey so special?
Tabletop games are always fun-as a general rule. Some transcend just being fun and reach a level that is almost magical while others remain just a game. Air Hockey is one of those that goes to new heights. It teaches up invaluable lessons that serve us well in other sports as well as in life. If we are persistent, and want to reach a professional Air Hockey level, we pay attention to lessons in?
- Hand to eye coordination
- Strategy formulation on the fly
- Mental stamina
- Lightning fast reflexes and heightened reaction time
- Fair play and sportsmanship
There is no aspect of everyday living that does not benefit from hand to eye coordination. It is essential in other sports as well as at work and recreation. In fact, having superior hand to eye coordination could save yo0ur life, or the life of a loved one. Imagine something being thrown and heading straight for a child?s head or face and you reaching out at the last second and either catching or deflecting it? it happens all the time.
Having the ability to think fast on your feet is another potentially life saving skill to have mastered. This is especially true if you work in a job that is cutthroat or competitive to the extreme. Out smarting co-workers can be a very beneficial thing to do in today?s economy.
Being mentally tough leads to confidence and confidence leads to will power. Very often, at the end of the day, the last man standing is the man with the will power and confidence to succeed. This is the man who possesses mental stamina. If you combine that with lightning fast reflexes and a winning smile, you have people like Robert Downey Jr, Bruce Willis, and Tom Hanks, all men to be admired.
The most important thing that you can learn in life and pass on to your children is fair play and sportsmanship. As times get tough and life on this planet gets volatile, as it so often does, fair play and sportsmanship is always the glue that holds society together. Imagine learning all of that from an air powered hockey table. Is it just a sport? I think not.
